The CEO of UnitedHealthcare was killed in a shooting in NYC
on Wednesday morning, sources have confirmed to Nexstar’s WPIX.
Brian Thompson, 50, was shot in the chest just before 7 a.m.
near a hotel on 54th Street between 6th and 7th Avenues,
sources said. The suspect had been waiting for Thompson to
arrive at the hotel for an investors meeting, according
to sources.
. . .
There was just a police briefing ... this WAS a targeted
hit. The assassin was lurking for the CEO, who was to
attend a big conference at the Hilton.
Thompson was shot fatally in the back plus the killer
fired several more rounds, even clearing a jam, just
to be sure. He then went around the building and
escaped on an e-bike, disappearing into the Central
Park area.
Gee ... guess UHC shoulda covered that hang-nail eh ?
A lot of people bitch about various CEOs, but to
see one deliberately killed, right out in public,
is almost unheard of.
Followup : Perp STILL not found. They think they MIGHT
have security cam pix of him - maybe. However they had
detained a 'person of interest' only to release him
shortly afterwards. The perp seems to have just disappeared.
If not so smart about hiding his face he apparently WAS
smart about how to disappear.
COULD even be a foreign national - a hired hit guy.
So far the only good bit to come of this, OTHER insurers
have suddenly liberalized their plans - not AS grubby
about when they'll pay (which, for many now, has
become "like NEVER"). Pay in big wads, get NOTHING out
when you need it. Normally this would be 'crime' - but
insurers have lots of lobbyists .......
Let's face the horrible truth - the economic picture
that allowed the rise of big insurers has come and
gone. In the USA that was the Big Growth era - WW2
up until maybe the 1980s. Since then we haven't had
much of a prosperous/growing future. We're just kinda
hanging on.
SO - there HAS to be a quick replacement for those
big insurers - health/property/etc. Private insurance,
well, maybe in case yer microwave melts, but otherwise ...
