PermalinkNASA's most powerful telescope has spotted something unexpected
which could overturn our basic assumptions about the universe.
Using the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST), scientists from
Johns Hopkins University have taken extremely accurate
measurements of the distances between galaxies.
These observations reveal that the universe is expanding eight
to 12 per cent faster than our current best theories predict.
This suggests that there may be some unknown force which explains
why the universe is expanding faster now than it was billions
of years ago.
. . .
Flying apart ???
I suspect that the Big Bang is STILL banging - pumping in
energy from dimension4 or something, the from-everywhere
'leak' just spread over a larger volume now.
An important question - which may be difficult to answer -
is whether the expansion rate/trend are CONSTANT, or
whether it's sometimes faster, sometimes slower. MIGHT
even reverse for awhile every so often. There may be
proxies that'll reveal this, or some next-gen math.
But - DO consider that various 'lensing' effects may be
corrupting Webb's readings.
